Olivier Kayser - Founding Partner

From 2003 to 2008, he was a VP of Ashoka, launching its France and UK operations, creating the global Ashoka Support Network and advising its Full Economic Citizenship Initiative. He was a senior partner at McKinsey for 18 years in Europe, the US and Asia. At age 23, he founded TER a consulting firm serving French public sector clients. He also lived a year in a small village in Belize. Olivier is a board member of two multi-billion Euros companies and non-profits, including GAIN until April 2013. Olivier graduated from HEC in 1979.


François Lepicard - Senior Partner

François has spent 11 years as top management consultant with McKinsey of which he was a partner, and 5 years as a venture capitalist in Occam, the fund management company he created. François was during two years CEO of Zenops, a games development company. At Hystra, François has led Hystra’s work of access to energy for photovoltaic products and Hystra study "Leveraging ICT for the Base of the Pyramid".


Lucie Klarsfeld McGrath - Partner

Lucie joined Hystra in 2009. She is our expert on marketing for the BoP, having worked with over 45 companies on improving their sales and distribution strategies. She has also worked in the energy, nutrition, agriculture, housing, ICT and impact investing sectors, and helped to create an innovative procurement model for last-mile distributors of beneficial products in Africa. Before Hystra, Lucie worked for Bain & Company and for the French Embassy in Bucharest. She also conducted consulting assignments for the UN. Lucie holds a Master in Engineering from Centrale Paris (2008) and a MIA from Columbia University (2009).


Simon Brossard - Project Manager

Simon joined Hystra in 2012, and has worked in the sanitation, agriculture, nutrition, and energy fields. He has also done extensive work with public-private alliances. Prior to Hystra, Simon's professional experience includes consulting for a microfinance institution in India. He also worked for medical startup in the US and the French bank Société Générale. Simon holds a Master in Management from ESSEC Paris, a Master in Development Economics from the Paris School of Economics, and was a visiting graduate student at UC Berkeley.

Robin Bonsey - Project Manager

Robin joined Hystra in 2013. Since then his work has included the fields of safe water, mobility, nutrition and agriculture. His previous professional experience includes social business in the industrial group Air Liquide, and consulting in social responsibility for Alstom. He was also junior extra-financial analyst at Amundi Asset Management. This experience among large corporations led him to join Hystra to better steer organizations toward a positive social and environmental impact. Robin is a graduate of HEC Paris, where he specialized in sustainable development. 


Adrien Darodes de Tailly - Senior Consultant

Adrien joined Hystra in 2016 as a consultant on projects in the fields of access to energy, safe water and elderly healthcare. He had provided market sizing and segmentation analyses for leading energy and FMCG firms and has conducted numerous social entrepreneurs and experts interviews. His professional experience includes social business development in the Philippines with Gawad Kalinga and consulting for French social housing organization VOH. He also worked as product manager for Saint-Gobain. Adrien graduated in 2015 from ESSEC Paris where he majored in social entrepreneurship.


Alice Magand - Senior Consultant

Alice joined Hystra in 2018 as a senior consultant. Since then, she has worked on fostering the deployment of inclusive businesses in the private sector, supporting both public-private partnerships and multinational corporations, in particular in the fields of last mile and access to nutrition.Prior to Hystra, she worked as a project engineer on infrastructure and water works. Seeking more impact, she joined the On Purpose Associate Programme, and worked for Phitrust Partenaires, a social impact investment fund and Innovafeed, a biotechnology start up company. Alice graduated from Ecole des Mines de Douai with a Master's degree of Engineering, and obtained a Certificate from Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal.


Marie Fleischmann - Consultant

Marie is a Consultant at Hystra, which she joined in 2018. Since her arrival, she has mainly worked in the field of access to nutrition, supporting multinationals and local firms in launching affordable nutritious food products in developing countries. Prior to Hystra, she worked for a strategy consulting firm in Morocco, where she helped a micro-credit association launching innovative payment solutions for low-income population. Marie graduated from HEC Paris Business school where she majored in Innovation and Social Business and at the Indian Institute of Management of Ahmedabad.


Amy Bendel - Consultant

Amy is a consultant at Hystra, where she has helped to develop an innovative procurement model for last-mile distributors of beneficial products in Africa. Her previous experiences include founding and leading a social enterprise in Tanzania, consulting for a million-dollar social enterprise backed by the Gates foundation and leading research on the start-up ecosystem of Dar es Salaam, which was recognized by the University of Oxford. Amy is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, and the Cambridge Judge Business School.


Jeanne Charbit-Dunoyer - Consultant

Jeanne joined Hystra in 2019 as a consultant. She started her career as an analyst in a venture philanthropic fund and then joined a design thinking firm in India to work on social innovation challenges. She also worked in a London-based agency, helping NGOs build their brand strategy. Jeanne holds a Master in Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Management from Imperial College, a Master in Public Affairs from Sciences Po Paris, and a bachelor in modern literature.


Suzette Valdes - Assistant and Office Manager

Before joining Hystra in 2018, Suzette worked for a foundation in Guatemala, as the president’s right hand in organizing their main events. She also worked in the Guatemalan National Congress as a report drafter, where she published a study on electoral law that helped proposed new reforms. She also has volunteer experience in natural disaster survivors in Guatemala. She holds an MPA in International Affairs and Development Policies from HEIP Paris as well as a Master in Globalization and spatial dynamics in developing countries from the Paris-Sorbonne University.

Jim Ayala - Manila, The Philippines

Jim is the founder of Hybrid Social Solutions, a pioneering social distribution company that distributes, services, and finances a range of innovative products – e.g., solar powered appliances and water purification devices – which enable disadvantaged families to move out of poverty. Jim is the 2013 recipient of the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year award and 2012 recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines award.  He is chairman of Stiftung Solarenergie – Solar Energy Foundation, and serves as board member of Princeton University, the World Wildlife Fund (Philippines), the Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Fund, and First Gen (a renewable energy company).  Prior to his career in social enterprise, Jim was CEO of Ayala Land, and a Director of McKinsey & Company.


Dipal Barua - Dhaka, Bangladesh

Dipal is the founder of Grameen Shakti, a Bangladeshi not for profit company that installed over 400,000 photovoltaic solar home systems to households of the “base of the pyramid”. Dipal is also the co-founder of the Grameen Bank, for which he worked as Deputy Managing Director for 34 years.  He has now left Grameen to set up Bright Green Energy Foundation. Grameen Shakti and Dipal have received many national and international awards including Right Livelihood Award in 2007 and Ashden Outstanding Achievement Award in 2008. Dipal is the first ever winner of Zayed Future Energy Prize 2009, the money of which he used to set up Zayed Scholarship Fund for green energy women entrepreneurs. Dipal also sits at the board of several organizations on renewable energies, served as an advisor on microcredit for various developing countries, is the lead author of IPCC AR5 on cutting-edge finance and investment, and has been invited as an advisor to the strategy advisory group of IRENA.


Alexandre de Carvalho - Nairobi, Kenya

Alexandre consults a variety of private sector companies as well as governments and development institutions on designing and implementing Inclusive value creation strategies. Previous work includes 22 years with Sanofi, including BU and Country Management in Brazil, Africa and India, Global Director, HIV/AIDS Paediatric Initiative at the Clinton Foundation, and MD/COO of KickStart, a Social Business dedicated to deploying irrigation solutions for small-holder farmers across Africa. He is an alumnus of HEC School of Management, Paris and of the Harvard Business School.


Francisco de la Torre - Mexico City, Mexico

Francisco serves as Chairman of FUNDES México (Fundación para el Desarrollo Sustentable) an organization that since 1984 has worked with large corporations and governments that seek to improve its economic, social and environmental impact by working together with local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). FUNDES currently has offices in 12 countries in Latin America. He is also an advisor to Fundación John Langdon Down, an NGO founded 44 years ago dedicated to support people with down syndrome and their families. He also has a consultant and management career as an international executive, entrepreneur and Board Member of several social organizations. Francisco spent several years as a consultant at McKinsey, as an executive at Procter and Gamble, at PepsiCo as President of Pepsi Cola Mexicana and President of Elma Chips (Frito-Lay Brazil), as VP Manufactoring and VP Sales at Sabritas (Frito-Lay Mexico), as President of Mission Foods in the U.S., and as President of CBS TeleNoticias, a T.V. news cable network covering 22 countries based in the USA. 


Ed Jardine - Caracas, Venezuela

Ed is founder of Corporate Low Income Market Strategies, whose objective is to help companies develop sustainable business solutions for Low Income Markets, with an emphasis on Social Responsibility. Ed was with Procter & Gamble’s Latin American Division for 29 years, finishing his career as V-P of P&G’s Andean business (01-07), following assignments in the South Cone (V-P Brazil/Argentine/Chile), V-P Venezuela and V-P Chile. Ed is currently Vice President of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce of Latin America, and is on the Board of several companies. He is a member of the Ashoka Support Network.


Jean Christophe Laugée - Paris, France

Jean-Christophe began his career as a legal expert, working fo companies in both France and England. He joined the Danone group in 1998 where he held several positions in Human Resources management in France and Russia.

In 2006, he took on the responsibility of leading the Group's Sustainable Development program and then onto the Danone Ecosystem Fund in 2009, an endowment fund of 100 million euros dedicated to the development of inclusive business. Over the course of 10 years, he set up more than 85 social and environmental projects in 40 of Danone's subsidiaries in co-creation with around 50 NGOs and development agencies. To date, these projects have directly benefited around 60,000 people (smallholders, street vendors, ragpickers, caregivers / health professionals) and have helped transform the Danone Group's buying and selling practices. In 2016, he was appointed Vice-President of the Environment and Inclusive Economy department, tasked with implementing the Group's policies in carbon neutrality, circular economies, protection of water resources and regenerative agriculture.


Laurent Liautaud - Dakar, Senegal

Laurent is the founder of Niokobok, an online retail company based in Senegal. Laurent has worked in start-ups or small divisions of large corporations, in mature and emerging markets, in the telecoms (Zandan), consumer goods (Havana Club Cuba, Unilever Mozambique) and management consulting (Bain & Company, Hystra). Laurent is an alumnus of the London School of Economics and a graduate from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and from HEC. He published a book, Rafiki, written in 2008 with his wife Clarisse, about their road trip from Maputo to Tunis, via Cape Town and Cairo. He received the third prize of the Orange African Social Venture Prize and a GIST Tech I Award in 2012.


Marie Rosencrantz - Hong Kong, London, Stockholm

Marie manages consulting engagements for investment clients and development organisations including leading global private equity firms and the UK, Swedish, Swiss and Belgian development finance institutions. Marie was a consultant with McKinsey and head of the Italy office of the Swedish Trade Council. She helped launch the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She was also employed with the World Bank, CDC Group plc and the Swedish foreign service in four continents before starting her consulting business Rosencrantz & Co in 2009. Marie has an Economics degree from Stanford and a MBA from Insead. 


Avik Roy - Kolkata, India

Avik, Founder and Managing Director of Re-emerging World, a strategic advisory firm specializing in emerging markets “base of the pyramid” strategies. Prior to that, he worked in India as an engineer with ICI, a consultant with TATA Consultancy Services and The Next Practice, working with Prof. CK Prahalad. Avik has worked on the ground in 10 countries in Asia and Africa and across 11 sectors. Avik was awarded the Gold Medal in Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode where he was the General Electric Fund Scholar. He also graduated First class with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

BopInc, Practical Action and Hystra have formed a consortium to develop the Global Distributors Collective (GDC), a collective of last mile distributor members around the world that reach millions of unserved consumers with life-changing products, like solar lanterns, water filters and clean cookstoves. The GDC provides a collective voice for distributors to ensure their voice is heard; drives research and innovation across the sector; facilitates the exchange of information, insight and expertise; and provides critical services that leverage economies of scale.

BopInc is a Dutch non-profit foundation that accelerates the impact of market-driven innovative welfare strategies in low-wage markets, the ‘Base of the Pyramid’ (BoP).

Practical Action works in partnership with poor people and their communities, building on their own knowledge and skills to come up with innovative, sustainable and practical solutions.
